rocBLAS error: Cannot read TensileLibrary.dat

The message

rocBLAS error: Cannot read <path>/TensileLibrary.dat: No such file or directory for GPU arch : gfx<nnnn>

Parts in <angle brackets> change from run to run.

What it means

rocBLAS ships kernels only for the GPU targets ROCm supports. Your card's gfx target, at the end of the line, is not one of them.

Why it happens

  • Common on consumer Radeons ROCm does not list, such as RDNA2 cards other than gfx1030 (gfx1031, gfx1032 …) and some integrated GPUs.

How to fix it

  1. On Linux, tell ROCm to use the nearest supported target: HSA_OVERRIDE_GFX_VERSION=10.3.0 for RDNA2 (gfx103x), 11.0.0 for RDNA3 (gfx110x). It is a workaround, not support — it usually works within one family.
  2. Or skip ROCm: llama.cpp's Vulkan backend and Ollama's Vulkan path run on Radeons ROCm does not list.
